Here we go again!

As of August 1, 2017 I'm officially running for reelection! Why? Because two years just wasn't enough! No, really the two biggest reasons are:

  1. We've got a lot of change around the corner: There is a lot going on this year - Burnes Park, the ARTery, Blake Road - and there will be even more over the next four - the Hopkins Pavilion, pickle ball courts, SWLRT prep. I want to be there to make sure that citizens are heard throughout the process and that we are consistently looking toward how to make our city safe, accessible, and affordable.
  2. The relationship between city staff and council is great: A well-functioning staff means that the council can focus on policy and handle the big picture, and this group lets us do just that. We had a lot of changeover in the two years I've been on council, and we are hiring some really stellar performers. I want to be there to see the next great idea brought to us, and helping them achieve the city's goals.

OK folks - now just circle November 7th on your calendars!

Candidate Forum

Last night I had the unique pleasure of speaking to my neighbors at the League of Women Voters Hopkins Municipal Candidate Forum. I thought the timing was especially apt - the campaigns are all heating up, but also yesterday was National Voter Registration Day. If you want more info on registering to vote, go here (applicable to all Minnesotans)

The forum will be rebroadcast Sept 23 - Oct 29: Hopkins City Channel 16 (Comcast) - Sun 5PM, Mon 5PM, Tues 1PM, Wed 10PM, Thurs 10AM or online at the League of Women Voter's website

A day in the life...

For those of you who are wondering how an average day on the campaign trail goes, this is for you! This Monday's live blog:

  • 5:00AM - Wake up with the dogs, feed them, let them out
  • 5:34AM - Get running! 4 miles, ran a bit slower because my calves were aching from yesterday's door knocking (so many stairs!). Walked and chatted a bit with someone I met yesterday.

Feeling Supported

Tonight I received a Resolution of Support from the SD46 DFL. I've been feeling supported by a whole host of folks recently, and I'm so grateful for how generous everyone has been. Parents, friends, neighbors, politicians and campaign advisors from far and wide.... Thank you!

Of course, now campaigning really begins! As of tomorrow, signs will start going up in town and we're off to the races. Please reach out to me if you want a sign up at your home or business. Let me know if you want me to chat with you (or even a group!). I'm ready for this, and excited for this new chapter of the campaign.

Finally - the League of Women Voter's Municipal Candidate Forum is next Tuesday night. I would love to pack the house with friends & neighbors. 7 PM, Hopkins City Hall

Council Meetings, New Taco Bell, Blake Road Development

Tonight I came home and decided to watch the most recent city council meeting - you can too! They stream it on demand, and show it on local access (more info here).

I really like watching our meetings, it's a great way to get caught up in what's going on in the city. Agendas and minutes are also available online, but it's great to watch the whole thing if you can. I'd like to make communication about the main goings-ons more widely available, either by working within our current city publications or working with the local press to try to get more coverage.
